I always get inspired after HMD--for whatever reason, it always makes me want to play more. I know I just picked up Hawkeye, but if you have anything to say already, I'm glad to hear it.

Also, if you'd like to tell me what-for regarding Prof. Dr. Laszlo Jamf, I am here to take that abuse on his behalf. Sample questions include, "Can I smack him because he's a dick?", "Why does he metaphorically blow so many goats?", and "OMGWTFBBQMunch?"

♥!

And? Still first~

Now that I am back!!!

Cain; What can I say about this fop that I haven't before? YOU ARE CAIN.

Okay no that's creepy, but I think I'll just be mirroring people here by saying god it's very clear you know your character and I think you and Bri are the reasons I like, dove hardcore into Victorian England and never looked back. To think I thought I was the only one who enjoyed the subject in history class back in high school ):

You've already heard most of my comments on Cain, as well as the development of the whole Rosella-Cain-Sam triangle (quadrangle? Wat), so I really don't have much to say on that end. I'm interested in seeing where that leads, as well as how it affects others around them. My own concern would be with Megumi's reactions to whatever happens but I'm looking forward to that as it comes.

My main concern with Cain is that-- sometimes, despite your wonderful ability to really just keep his personality shining through his posts and his old-fashioned mindset in all this modernity, sometimes it feels like he's just kind of... reacting for the sake of reacting? Like, he doesn't have much involvement in things, which isn't actually your fault seeing as there hasn't been much plot going and there aren't any mysteries to solve and stuff in the City itself, especially with Alexis gone.

But I would like to see him get into his element, though there is a lot of awesome complexity and drama with the love triangle thing going on! I hope there will be some opportunity for you to bring out detective Cain again as well and get him cracking some of those mysteries we love Godchild for, since goodness knows it probably just hasn't been possible with how things have been. I'm impressed that you still manage to keep him going despite the drawbacks you might be facing and I love you for helping build a complicated, crazy and fulfilling relationship with Megumi as well.

Hope... that made sense... a bit...? ;;

♥~!! It's a quadrangle because Cain's dragging Megumi into it. QED. I'm glad you're interested, because I sure don't know what's going to happen there either. I'm really, yeah, not sure at all (and I owe you a tag too...).

I guess I'm not quiiiiiiiiite sure what you mean by "reacting for the sake of reacting." Admittedly, no, he doesn't have as much reason to invest himself in things since, yes, Alexis is gone and, no, there aren't that many mysteries to solve in the City (at least, ones that the police don't pounce on first). But he is yet relentlessly social and still tries to keep himself hooked into the goings-on of the City. It still interests him, even if it does kind of frustrate him with making him crazy or turning him into a cat. I'd love to have some reason for him to solve Godchild-type mysteries too, though it's rare for those to turn up in-game of late. (Needs moar villains around here!!) I do miss playing detective Cain, and if the chance comes to bring that side around, I'll jump for it. It's been tricky lately not to make him too...nice. He's been in, as Ruxi pointed out, a lot of domestic plots of late, and that is getting away from his horror fantasy roots to a degree. So I'll try to get more into that side of him, if the chance presents itself. (Upcoming curse might make for some of that~)

It did make sense, a bit, so dun worreh. I hope we'll be able to play together for a long time to come, too. I love how things have grown between Cain and Megumi and I want to see how that will keep on rolling along~ ♥

So I failed to actually talk to Cain with Chuck. I'm blaming it on many, many things, none of them is you of course. But I promise to try and get myself together.

Also: Your Sherlock is love and I"m looking forward to see how that Irregulars plot is going to play out :P

I have a disturbing lack of constructive criticism for you, I blame it on my fangirl nature and complete lack of knowledge of your canons...

Either Chuck has to talk to Cain or Cain has to talk to Chuck. That's all there is to it, really. So! One of us has to get something together :3 Either way, I'm looking forward to it.

Thank you! Holmes I worry about because he's such an iconic character. Sometimes I feel like I'm playing him a little too much Jeremy-Brett-playing-Sherlock-Holmes rather than just straight up Sherlock Holmes (but, sob, I'm such a Brett fangirl it's not even funny). I'm hoping the Irregulars plot will serve as a kind of ongoing plot--it'll get him around more, and give other characters someone new to tag with. I hope it'll work. I always liked the idea of the Baker Street Irregulars.

That is okay too! Thank you for telling me I'm doin it rite :3 I will do my best to keep it up ♥

I've very much enjoyed having Sam and Cain interact more. Really, I should have tagged Cain with him long ago.

Question for you, just in the general vein of curiosity. After being in the City so long, how do you keep Cain from getting frustrated at being stuck here?

We really should have tagged much sooner. I'm enjoying tagging Sam with Cain. They're really...opposite of one another in some ways. So I'm glad we've taken to tagging now. I hope we can keep it up.

Buh--part of me hates this kind of question because it makes me go, "OMG, is he not frustrated enough? Should I make him more frustrated? ...should I drop him because he's been here so long? It isn't fair to him that he's still here..." BUT! In answer to it: he is frustrated, but he's kind of being stiff-upper-lip about it. He's been here for two years and change. On the one hand, he hates it, it isn't home, and he's got no one from his world here anymore (not even his enemies!). On the other hand, he's gotten used to the technology, he's established himself fairly well here, he's relatively comfortable, and he has a couple of people who are somewhat significant to him. So, yes, on the one side he is frustrated with having been here for so long, for having seen other people go home. He's gotten to be a little resigned about it all, sort of beyond the frustration and into the resignation of a life in exile. He still hopes he'll go home eventually, but in the meantime he's still got to live. The Network is entertaining, there's the cafe to run, and of course there are curses with which to contend. He's kind of built a life in exile for himself in the City. He keeps himself occupied, and I think that's how he holds off most of the shouting-and-breaking-things frustration that could overtake him. He's gotten to that point before--and if certain people ever leave the City, he'll likely get there again. But for now, he's got things to occupy himself with and he's making the best of matters.

Yes. But, I fully intent to keep on tagging you with Sam!

I figured some of the frustration might be due to him keeping up appearances. I don't always read what's behind his Private to Self cuts.

I think he's one of the few characters that I've seen in the City this long that is still as active as he is, so I'm glad that you've still got a lot you're doing with the character!

Sweet! I'm looking forward to it!

I don't think a lot of people read what I put back there, and I don't really expect anyone to. I mean, lol, no one can see it but him. But I do write it so that if something's going on that's affecting his interactions, I can point to it and say, "Here's what happened." It's more record-keeping in gameplay form than anything. I know, it's a little eccentric, but... Either way, I almost wonder if he's more homesick than frustrated. From early on, especially while thinking about how he'd act without Riff, I figured he might think of his as an extended trip out of town--one where he left Riff at home. He can and does function fine on his own, being sort of smoothly tough as he is, but I think he'd be more homesick than frustrated should he find himself stuck somewhere--but he'd be all right if he could find ways to entertain himself (see: the Network). I'm totally rambling now XD

He's a lot of fun to play and he does fairly well in this set-up: he's verbal, but still active. I'm forever looking for more to do with him, but so long as he's relentlessly social as he is, he'll have something to entertain him. So here's hoping he's as entertaining for those who read his posts!

Number one is you! Oh, Caru.

DO you have an amazing bookmarked reference page for Victorianisms or is that all the sheer librarian amazing that you are? I think it's rather funny that you play two detective characters, both in an era with drastic slants to it. Obviously our dear Sherlock is moar real, where as Cain is ...special.

Lina would like to know if Lazlo is ever going to accept that he is a NERD GEEK EGGHEAD.

I know, I know. It's a tradition now. Like posting HMD at 3am :3

I don't have a bookmarked reference page, but I do have a book! It's called What Jane Austen Ate and Charles Dickens Knew. It explains details of the era like what the Season is (and when it is), the differences between various types of maids (parlour, kitchen, house, and otherwise), carriages and carts, city life, trains, houses with names, &c. I refer to that book ALL the time with Cain. That helps me get the details right. The rest of it comes from reading stories (Sherlock Holmes, for example, among others). Cain is, admittedly, less historically accurate and more fantastic than Holmes, but it's known that Kaori Yuki is a Sherlock Holmes fan (and probably a fan of the Jeremy Brett-era Holmes too, since the character designs in Godchild resemble the costumes in that series--ironic, isn't it?), so I will admit to drawing on bits of that at times. I find it a bit ironic myself that I play the both of them, and I do worry that I get their voices either too similar or that I make too much effort at making sure they're obviously different and so one sounds off (usually I think Cain sounds too modern). So it they start seeming interchangeable, tell me. That's the last thing I want to have happen. But, yes, Cain is rather...special. I will continue to do my best with them, and my reference materials! ♥

HE WILL NEVER ACCEPT THAT >( Mostly because he's a dick.

Oh Caru. Between Cain, Holmes, and Hawkeye I very much look forward to seeing you, as always, manage an amazing amount of material for each of them to say. Considering their time periods and genres, one of these things is not like the other, but I think that'll just make it a lot more fun to read. The amount of research and environment-specific detail you put into characters is always impressive.

PS. This applies to Laszlo too 8)

Also, a toast to Cain for being in the game for so long and still growing as a character.

I'm feeling good with Cain and Holmes. Hawkeye's shaky as yet, partially because he's so new, but also because, HOMG 20th CENTURY??? One of these things is very much not like the others, but hopefully it's not that one of these things doesn't belong. I will do my best with all of them!

I've found that being able include era-specific and environment-specific details makes the character that much more real and it gives me more to talk about in tags. Not just things like, "dude, wtf electric lights???" upon arrival, but things that come up later in conversations--I like being able to drop references to things a character would have known about, like steam trains, prime ministers, and popular books. It puts them in a bigger world and doesn't confine them to being just a cardboard character in a flat world. I'm lucky to play characters who have worlds like that--ones that one can really research and find details about. (I am also a dork about research. So it's also just fun.)

(I like being able to do weird shizzle with Laszlo. I admit it now. That's some of why I like making him visible and active in-game. Because, dude, I've picked up some weird information in my life because my dad's a timelord, remember and I like having a place I can throw it around.)

Ah, Cain. How long you've been with us. How far you've come. (How far I've come too, since he's my firstly first and the one I learned to LJRP with!) Thank you: I will try to keep doing my best with him--with all of them~

Caru~

You're amazing.

Jesus.

I have no other words.

Oh expect that you should expect a certain team of Young Avengers to gawk at Hawkeye because of his name, and that Cain is ridiculously consistent, and that I want to adopt Holmes. A question is - will you be drawing from the new movie that's coming out? I suspect the answer is no but inquiring minds long to know!
