I just had to share this because it's very annoying and I guess kinda amusing. A while back I bought an old camera from a thrift store, and for some reason it came with an extra bag (even though the camera came in a case already) that had some random photography supplies in it. I didn't need any of them, or the bag, so I posted it all up on craigslist. The (did I mention ugly?) bag got a lot of interest and sold really quickly! A couple other things went pretty quick as well. I still have two things, one of which I got an email about but no response to my reply, and the other is a very particular item that I'd imagine might be searched for on craigslist maybe once a year in San Francisco, so I figure I just need to repost it a bunch before someone finds it who wants to buy.
Anyways, that last item, I posted it again last night and it got flagged off! I was shocked, especially since I'd posted it up there many many times with no problems in the past. The email said 2% of flagged posts are mistakes and if I think it was a mistake I can repost. I looked through the terms of service and didn't see anything I was violating, so I reposted. This morning it was down again!! So I followed the emails advice and went to the forums to ask why. Damn those people reply quickly!! Apparently it was flagged because I offered to ship it with payment through PayPal (on TOP of offering local pickup). It took a million posts and responses before I got a straight answer that the reason it was flagged is because offering those things makes me look like a scam artist. RIGHT. I would love it for someone to tell me how I can scam someone by having them pay me four bucks through PayPal and me ship them the item. Ooh, what if I didn't ship it to them? They're out four whole dollars!! I'm sure the price doesn't matter, those people just flagged for a possible scammer, no matter the money. The reason I'm annoyed/amused or whatever is that the people who reply on those craigslist forums are such LOSERS!! Oh my GOD! These people sit in front of craigslist all day and reply to peoples posts asking why their ads were flagged within SECONDS! And then when they don't like you, they start making FUN of you! Talk about losers, they are on the edge of their seat just waiting to make a mean jab at someone who they don't like the sound of, on a stupid craigslist forum!! WOW!!
The deal is, the first response I got was that craigslist is for local deals. I was kinda surprised, I've shipped three or maybe more things through the mail to people who found my item on craigslist. I've posted many posts offering shipping if the person can't pick up locally. I've never had a problem. Now I'm told craigslist is only for local deals. So I asked where that was written. Why did I ask? Because unless you're a craigslist forum loser, you don't know all these unwritten rules, you have to stick to the written ones. So how is someone who is new to craigslist supposed to know it's strictly only for face to face meetings? That is why I asked. Basically I wanted to know, "how was I supposed to know that?" I got all these really vague answers back like "duh, if people ask for items to be shipped, 99% of the time it's a scam!" So I said, oh, so the reason my ad got flagged (which is why I'm at this loser forum, to find out specifically WHY) was because people thought my post was a scam? And someone writes asking if I'm here to argue or learn? Huh? I'm clearly here to learn, I'm asking questions and hoping to learn from the answers. But they apparently don't like people who ask questions...? Anyways, I said I absolutely wasn't there to argue, I simply had a question I wanted answered, and I'd appreciate an answer BECAUSE I'm there to learn. And I got more vague answers back, really random stuff that wasn't directly related to my question. Some idiot said something about sticking a fork in a light socket. And THEN someone replied to that person going, "but where is that in the rules?" Clearly making fun of me. Wow. This guy gets his kicks by making fun of people on a craigslist forum. I had to hold myself back SO badly from replying, "get a life!" or "you're such a loser!" because who knows, maybe he works for the CIA and he'll have me killed. Or he'll just make obnoxious threats and not leave me alone. In any case, wow. WOW. I have a whole new view of craigslist now.
I believe craigslist is a cult. ;)
