Cuddle Parties

Have you heard of cuddle parties? They are gatherings, usually within a residence, usually with 5-15 people, that usually last 2-4 hours, in which people cuddle with other people that are strangers or nearly strangers; sex is disallowed. That is a type of polyamory, which may be called 'short-term tactile polyamory'. Considering that cuddle parties are a type of polyamory, I am surprised that they are not listed in the interests of any livejournal polyamorist group.

A major advantage of cuddling with strangers over sex with strangers is that there is no risk of disease transmission, except that of airborne diseases that can be transmitted among ANY crowd. It also eliminates the people that just want to use other people as genital plugs.

Cuddle parties were invented by Reid Mihalko and Marcia Baczynski (a couple) of New York in 2004. They own the website http://www.cuddleparty.com .
Unfortunately, said 2 inventors try to wield authoritarian control over the details of how cuddle parties are run. They even have a certification program for people who run cuddle parties.

In conclusion, cuddle parties are an innovative but little-known method of polyamory, but the authoritarian policies of the inventors should not be followed except for the specific policies that the individual cuddle party host supports.
