Twice recently I have heard people refer to a slide as a "sliding board" - I had never heard it before, but then again, there was a huge gap in my discussions about slides and playgrounds between ages 12 and 35 ( Read more... )

Huh, I've never heard sliding board. I grew up in the middle of Indiana.

And we always just say hose.

One thing about Ohio-- they call the devil strip the "treelawn" and the side of the road the "berm" which...uh... we just called it the edge. LOL

I have never heard devil strip OR tree lawn! We call that the median. And the side of the road is the shoulder.

I grew up in NJ and we called the devil strip an easement.

Ok, I had to wiki treelawn AND devil-strip...

A road verge, (also verge, city grass, devil's strip, nature strip, parking strip, planting strip, sidewalk buffer, tree belt, tree lawn, utility strip, parkway etc.) is a narrow strip of grass or plants and sometimes also trees typically located beside the carriageway (roadway) within the boundary of a road.

and I don't even know if we HAVE a word for it here! I would go with buffer, but I've never heard that said.
