So I am in love with the movie 'A Room With A View' and right now I am in Florence (or Firenze, like the centaur) and this makes me very happy. (the movie is set in florence, for those of you infidels who haven't seen it.)
I am so jetlagged and I've just spent an hour answering emails and such, so this won't be a full-fledged post. Ummmmmmmmm....
Oh yeah, highlight of today: I took a photo of a very slashy statue, and I'm going to send copies to my fellow gay porn fans. Those neoclassicists and their homoerotic sculptures!
Also: being in a country where you don't speak the language is humiliating. I got served by a clerk at a Tobacchi last night. She was extremely annoyed when I asked her if she spoke English, and if possible, more annoyed when I asked her (in French) if she spoke French. She said something like, "This is Italy. I speak Italian. Because it's ITALY," which was sort of discouraging, because my tiny little phrase list at the back of my guidebook does not mention how you say "phone card" in Italian. Somehow, though, I managed to get one, but not without earning Good Riddance sort of looks from her as I left the shop. I also bought an Italian comic (fumetti, they're called here) because my research paper is on....Italian comics! Who would have guessed? It looks like it might be about zombies, but I'm not sure. I can't read Italian.
Ciao!
