What are we going to do about it?

Poll Circling the plug-hole
A reminder that the the_lj_revival community exists with the aim of boosting interaction on LiveJournal and pointing out its many advantages over the grossly inferior social media sites with which we are all familiar.

Yes, all the predictions of LiveJournal's demise over many years have proved to be false. Unless some useless organisation takes it over and completely wrecks it, as happened to MySpace (and I suppose that possibility can't be entirely discounted), I see no reason why LiveJournal won't continue to exist. If the current owners are failing to make a success of it, I'm pretty sure they'll sell it on rather than closing it down. I was particularly irritated by the most recent predictions of LiveJournal's imminent demise at the start of the Russia/Ukraine war, and knew them to be false. I saw posts stating that LiveJournal would cease to exist on a particular date and urging everyone to move to Dreamwidth. Sure enough, LiveJournal didn't disappear, and here we are still posting on it. But many were scared into migrating to Dreamwidth. People are evidently gullible and easily fooled.

As for Facebook, it's a mystery to me why so many people are so willing to stick with it. Everything about that site is awful. It doesn't even show you most (or any) of your friends' posts, but fills the Newsfeed with adverts for useless crap that nobody needs, false propaganda and stuff you've seen several times already, and all in some nonsensical jumbled order. Arrghh! Don't get me started! Meanwhile LiveJournal still works exactly as a social media site should, showing you only what you actually want to see: all of your friends' posts in the order they were posted. Yet people would rather be on Facebook, with all its censorship, manipulation and lack of privacy. I just don't get it at all.
