This week Aaron and I bought our half of the duplex. Financially, it's the most wonderful thing to ever happen to us. We've already made money on the house, thanks to my parents' generosity and a delightful thing called gift equity. It feels good to know we're not squandering our money by paying crazy rent to too-rich nameless landlords. Also, when we move home in 1.5-2 years, we'll have a nice chunk of cash to put toward a nice chunk of house in the 614 area code.
Though there are financial benefits, there are also downsides. Namely, buying the house solidified the fact that we aren't moving back home for at least a year and a half. I miss Columbus. I miss the culture. (To those of you raising eyebrows when I say culture, I invite you to Auburndale, Florida to experience the local color. People here pride themselves in being called rednecks from Dixie. They forget the Florida wasn't part the Union, so it never seceded. Even Caribbean immigrants wear huge belt buckles. But enough about that.) I miss Brad, Melissa, Nathan and Rachel. I miss LP: Amy, Micah, Phil, David, Mandy, my one and only Heather, Kelli, Matt, Eric and family, Aaron and Kristina, Jen, the Bells, praying together, eucharist, meals around the big table at 64 King, the porch swing, poetry readings where I got maybe half of what was said, the list goes on...
