What a day. For the past week, I haven't left the house. Once. Been working on that major feature, and it's now done, submitted last night. The editor got back to me, said it's wonderful, doesn't need any changes, all is good, and will be out this fall. I can't say much about the actual article til it gets published, but will post a link when it's available online.
I've done various writing before, but usually shorter pieces or service journalism. This is my first feature story, and boy, it was a struggle. But I learned a lot, and hey, I'm a real writer now.
So I think I'll sleep in tomorrow. Cuz that's what writers do, right? Err...right???
Saw
Mad Hot Ballroom today with Leia. I had to twist her arm a bit to see it, but it's cheapie movie night in Canada and it beat out the crappy alternatives.
I thought it was good, nothing really groundbreaking other than the premise, a movie about a bunch of kids ballroom dancing. The emotional tugs were familiar, but it was still well-done and an insightful look into some inner-city kids, and the hope that surrounds them.
Worth seeing if you can.
I just read a rumour that the Smurfs are going to be made into a CGI animated movie. Just destroy my childhood piece by piece, Hollywood. Anyone want to bet that they cast celebrities to do the voice-overs? Anyone? Anyone?
I can't wait for the Will Smith smurf who becomes the goofy smurf that saves the day. Grrrrr. Just grrrr.
And Michael Bay has been announced as the director of the Transformers movie. I hate Michael Bay for two reasons:
1. He directed Pearl Harbor and made it into a love story.
2. He wouldn't let Scarlett Johansson take off her bra and go topless for the love scene, because the movie had to be PG-13.
And now he's directing one of the staples of my childhood. Fan-fucking-tastic. That should ensure the Transformers movie sucks total ass. What next? Turn it into a love story? Starscream falling in love with Megatron? They'll prolly make Optimus Prime into a metrosexual too, just to really piss me off.
I hate Hollywood.
