Next weekend is just full of knitting and fiber goodness.
The 7th annual World Wide Knit In Public day is next weekend.
Technically, WWKIP day runs for a whole week starting on the second Saturday until the third Sunday of June.
The premise of this event is as simple as it sounds --- knitting in public. It's turned into an all-inclusive fiber arts type of event where knitters, crochetters, spinners, weavers and other fiber artists get together in pairs, groups and crowds to work their fiber art in public at parks, malls, coffee shops, beaches, libraries, etc etc. Get togethers are staged all over the world as part of the bigger collective.
There's an event happening in my city on the Sunday out at the Mission Marsh (place where I take all my deer photos and most of my nature photos lately). It's a nice, natural park setting with a big gazebo to sit under, as well as washrooms. Here's a map to the Mission Island Marsh Conservation Area and a map of the Area, also. Again, we'll all meet at the Gazebo ("Interpretive Pavilion" on the map).
Event happens from 1:30 to 3:30 pm but feel free to show up anytime and stay as long as you want! Bring an outdoor chair and maybe some water and bug spray.
You can find out more information, including registered events, on the
World Wide Knit In Public Website. Locally, you can find information on the
Ravelry Superior Crafters of the North Group or the
Threads in Time group. You can also call the local yarn store Threads in Time directly if you have any questions: 626-9023.
I am going to try and make it to this event but my cottage by the lake is calling to me and our summers are short! We will probably be heading out there that Sunday. If not, you can find me at the WWKIPD event! It's really close to my house so maybe I'll ride my bike out there. Probably would take me about 20 minute or half hour considering the huge bridge I'd have to peddle over too.
