Did something happen on livejournal that is causing everyone to move to dreamwidth? I’ve been pretty out of the loops. Anyways, feel free to follow me on dreamwidth. I’m Morningsun there. I have lots to update everyone on.

Nothing happened really. Ppl are afraid something will happen bc LJ is owned by a Russian company, or they blame them for the war idk lol. I do have a DW but I don't intend to make it my primary unless this ACTUALLY shuts down.

I moved to Dreamwidth because they changed their payment system to one that requires you to have a credit card that does currency conversion for you in July of last year. I don't have the ability to pay them in rubbles, and I realized I like having a paid account. That's why I moved. Some moved because they were afraid that they'd lose access to LiveJournal when Putin threatened to cut Russia off from the web. Some moved out of fear LiveJournal would collapse as more sanctions were placed on Russia. Some moved because they saw using a platform that is Russian owned as supporting the war in Ukraine. People have had a variety of reasons to move. For some it's been a matter of fear or moral choice, but for me it was financial. I couldn't pay for paid anymore and I like paid.

That’s a little nerve wreaking to deal with the currency conversion given what’s going on with Russia.

Nothing really happened, but a lot of people were afraid because of the whole Russian invasion of Ukraine, LJ was going to go offline, bit it didn't, thankfully.

There was a mass exodus to Dreamwidth as a result, though.

Damn…it’s been a fear for years. Hopefully, it doesn’t happen. I have lots of good memories of livejournal.

Other people have commented all the reasons people left, haha. I really wanted to stay here as my main blog but honestly almost ALL of my flist left for DW permanently or even deleted their journals, so I'm mostly over there now... I'll add you there. Hope you're well!
