I am nervous rambling because the vet appointment is in less than an hour.
The new people at work are getting really irritating. The work ethic with the 2 new people is terrible and they're absolutely unprofessional, it's like have you never worked in an office environment before? One has, is a transfer from Public Works in fact and this is a promotion for her(she is a veritable KNOW IT ALL but really immature, it's obnoxious I swear). She really should know better I don't care if she's "only" 24. The other is 30, worked at Petco, CVS and sells Scentsy. He is always making dick and sex jokes and I'm surprised some of the more conservative women in my office haven't complained about it yet (or maybe they have). Neither of them write anything down during training and don't take them seriously either. They are constantly interrupting with sarcastic comments and snide jokes and it's really disrespectful. My boss called them in at the end of their 2nd week and asked them what they've learned so far and the guy drew a total blank, and said "maybe I need to write things down." Week 3, hasn't taken any notes.
I had a talk with our supervisor about it yesterday and it turns out the other 2 seniors who are training are experiencing the same thing, so it's not just me being grumpy. She's like I'll be so pissed if they don't get it together and don't work out. She didn't call EITHER OF THEIR REFERENCES which I didn't know. UM? Just because someone interviews well doesn't mean they're a good fit. Just because Amanda came from Public Works and her mom works at the Courthouse doesn't mean she's a good employee. I can see her getting her shit together MAYBE, if she's talked to, because her mom works for the County(with our office a lot even) and would be disappointed if she didn't cut it but the dude? He was let go at Petco AND CVS both for "unfair" reasons. So you didn't think to check those references at least, you just took his side of the story because he was funny? Ouch.
Anyway... I felt slightly bad talking to my supervisor because it seems curmudgeon-y but after we chatted we agreed it's just unacceptable. She called another senior into the room for the conversation too(the other was out) and I felt better with my feelings. I know I can be sensitive so it's nice to check my feelings against others. Matt(the dude) copped an attitude with me yesterday about "I'm confused, why are we doing this? What's the point? It seems like a big waste of time for nothing." After explaining to him that yes it seems that way but there is definitely a purpose for it because sometimes things get corrected between receiving a scanned copy and receiving the original documents so we need to do it and it's important for he still didn't get it and was being shitty with me. It was fucking rude the way he asked too. He's snarky as fuck. I've never seen a brand new employee cop so much attitude about the work he is given. What the fuck is that? Probation lasts 6 months bro, you are in week 3. I've asked them both to do certain tasks and they hadn't yet a full week later. They're not that busy and they're actually so noisy chatting and joking, I had to leave the office to make a few professional phone calls in a co-worker's office that has a door.
Then the other day Amanda was telling me about how she doesn't like Mike, that he's creepy(?!) and wants to know if we can "vote him off the island". I'm like, "yes, Mike is socially awkward and kinda nerdy so he misses social cues sometimes but he's really knowledgable, helpful and nice, and he's been here much longer than you so there's no voting him off the island!" She got all offended. She doesn't like that he will stand there and wait for you to notice him to ask a question. That's annoying yes, but he has told me he doesn't want to interrupt me. All she needs to tell him is to "interrupt away that's what I'm here for!" and he will. (A sidenote, Mike admitted to me last week he has been contemplating suicide recently, which was hard for him to do and I'm a little mother hen-ish about him right now - and he is NOT creepy. Nerdy and yes maybe irritating at times but CREEPY? Watch your step bitch. Nobody knows about his contemplation but me and our supervisor, who I told because it happened on the clock and I needed resources/back-up and she needed to know in case it happens at work etc.)
So there's that. HAHAHA I hope they do work out in a way because they'll be taking over the programs I temporarily took over when Jennifer quit, and it's going to take a huge burden off my shoulders(I was basically working twice the number of programs that everyone else in the office was working for 6 weeks with no training and little support) so if they don't work out I'm back to square one again. I just hope they get reined in a little, which my boss is supposed to do, because they're out of control and it's not cool. She and the other senior agreed that not only is their behavior unacceptable and disrespectful, but they are coming into a position that is OUR EQUAL... Which the know-it-all girl keeps pointing out when we give her direction "...and WHY do I need to do this?" Because it'll be your program when you're fully trained, and you need to do the work to understand your program - plus, WTF BITCH you are training, you have to take direction for now. Coming into a Senior position, they are expected to have a certain level of work ethic and professionalism. Seriously I keep forgetting they're not Fiscal Assistants as opposed to Senior Fiscal Assistants because of their lack of work ethic and immaturity and unprofessionalism. This is not a retail store, this isn't a peanut gallery, is a place of official business for Public Health and we are expected to meet certain standards. I'm so over them right now, that I might just take my boss' offer to take the whole day off to watch Emmylou, just to get away from their crazy for a day. Pretty sad when our office has had a really harmonious relationship up til now.
