Honestly, I think if I weren't married I'd probably have done something like this this year. I might have up and quit my job, moved in with my parents & joined the Occupy movement in the Bay Area (much to my parents' horror too I am sure).
The recent debates over Obama cutting defense spending(and here I am rejoicing)... The people mad at him are sheer idiots. They are the same people who are against spending money on health care and social service programs(welfare, unemployment, etc). They need to take a long hard look at themselves and the bigger picture(LIFE!) and decide what is more important: spending money on the capacity to go to war and kill people, the capacity to win a violent battle??? Or spending money to save peoples' lives who are in desperate need. Many of these people claim to be Christian. What, what in God's name would Jesus do? We all know, but they refuse to acknowledge it because it doesn't fit their personal agenda. I don't openly identify myself as a Christian because I am ashamed at what fundamentalists have done to twist the intent of Jesus' message. They use it as a tool to divide and separate and that is exactly opposite of what it should be used for.
WOAH! TOTAL TANGENT. I hope you don't mind... :) xoxoxox
Totally with you, too. Obama has his head on straight (and after eight years under the Anti Christ, you'd think people would be appreciative!) but he won't get the proper support because, like you said, people have their own personal fucking agendas. To hell with poor kids all over America not having money for breakfast or shoes, I need a heated pool in my backyard and to drive a gas guzzling monstrosity! Fucking makes me sick. SICK.
I totally agree, there is something very ill with our society here in America in particular. The consumerist mentality is disgusting and I even find myself falling into it sometimes, which is when I take a step back and be grateful for what I actually indeed have... And get myself to THE BEACH!
We ALL fall into it occaisonally; it's our enviroment, it's hard to keep things in perspective all of the time. It's designed to confuse and mislead us -- distract us from the truths and real issues.
You keep talking about the beach and it makes me want to go away this winter SO badly :l I keep flipping back and forth in my head about just taking off for Reading Week (and I'm pretty damn sure my birthdays falls into that!) I know I probably shouldn't, but damn I want to! Traveling alone to foreign countries is pretty scary, though. Not sure I want to risk it! But the beach... LoL
I totally agree. Consumerism is a major distraction from reality. All these video game-raised kids scare the shit out of me, I don't know what their idea of "reality" is.
Omg I know :l I see all these teenagers on the bus and it's painfully obvious that they've modelled themselves after the hair piles from Jersey Shore. THAT'S what you're aspiring to be?!? That and Kim Kardashian -- the woman who makes Paris Hilton look like a fucking genius. And they think that's reality? How frightening is that? *shudders*
Reading Week is the college version of March Break! It's in February, though, which is great because it's still so shitty awful cold and wet, it'll be nice to have a little time off.
Oh yeah Jersey Shore scares me. I'm scared for the future. Part of me wants to pop a kid out to try to... Negate wtf is happening to our world but at the same time I don't know if I could handle it if they turned into a Jersey Shore wannabe. LOL
