Ironically, it's within the context of an armed populace prepared to ward off a foreign invasion - that is, the oft-cited "well-regulated militia" - that a sentiment like that expressed in the OP seems least off-putting. Unfortunately, as presented, it comes off as less "last ditch effort to protect ourselves" and more "violent fantasy that some falsely believe we all (or should) share."
