I wasn't surprised with this decision really. I do remember the court ruled in favor of a school district telling students to turn their American flag tee shirts inside out during a school wide 2010 Cinco de Mayo celebration. And wasn't there another case with a high school student protesting across the street with some sign or tee shirt, and SCOTUS ruled in favor of the school administration and against the student.
If only protesters will understand that shooting doctors and blowing up clinics is not speech.
I'm a pretty strong free speech guy, but considering the violent passions that have been oft exhibited by these protesters, a little more consideration might have been given.
When it comes to abortion rights, the theater has been burning.
Nonviolent protestors can be plenty harassing. I've seen them in action. Not like women going to those clinics couldn't hear them or see the signs being held up before this ruling.
Now they can feel free to run up and press literature in hands and try to witness for Jesus face to face. I don't see the upside.
Free Speech "zones" for protests against the government have been upheld, which is kind of inconsistent-seeming.
As for the anti-abortion folks, they still had their rights of speech, just the more in-your-face sort of intimidation was restricted. But we live in an era where escalation is a theme.
on the abortion decision regarding buffer zones.
I wonder what happened there.
