The other funny thing is that even as there's a War on Drugs in the US, American soldiers are guarding Afghan farmers' poppi fields so they don't get ruined in the violence.

Crying "Heroin!" while busting pot users seems to be a strategy that's worked for them for over a half century.

I guess they need to do it because (a) the pot inevitably forces its users to go on to those harder drugs, and (b) they never can find much of those harder drugs anywhere.

Technically, China was a Japanese colony at the time (previously it would have been British opium).

The one thing I agree about with my Libertarian brethren - we should be able to buy opium in the corner drugstore, like we could 100 years ago.

The anti-drug movement in the United States has a long history of blatant racism. Have you not noticed the push to legalize marijuana seems to coincided with how it has become a drug of choice for white people?
