[It's actually not all that uncommon for Poland to forget his journal is on. He leaves it open, but he never really does anything that's a big deal so nothing embarrassing happens.
But it's time to let his fish go. Hubert's not looking good and he wanted to deny this, but he couldn't anymore. Right now he's in a bucket, but Poland wants to say good-bye first.]
Sorry, I like, didn't get you a coat or anything. But I don't know, I think you can totally make it. You seem really strong, Hubert and you're totally welcome for me not eating you. I bet you would have been really yummy, but I couldn't do it, you know? You're a really cute carp and like, killing things is grody. Like, why do you have to die anyway, you know? Like why do things have to die just because we want them to? It sucks. It's totally unfair. Maybe you're just a fish or something, but you're alive. It's like, maybe one person is just one person out of a bajillion people. But they're still somebody, you know?
[Ugh, he hates this mood so he laughs and comes up with a joke.]
You totally made Christmas less stupid. So thanks! You reminded me of home! Which was totes sad sometimes, but still cool sometimes, too. So yeah.
Well, guess this is it! Try to find somewhere warm, okay? And maybe find a girl carp and have babies! O-okay. Um, bye. Be safe, Hubert. You were totally the cutest carp I ever saw.
[He can do this without crying. Really he can. He just won't look at Hubert as he does this. He quickly walks out, leaving his journal open as he's out at the lake.
The actual letting go takes a while, but he does it. He doesn't see him swim away, but Poland's going to believe he swam home because maybe this was his home. Maybe he's happy and back with friends. That's what Poland's going to believe anyway.
When Poland gets back home, he sits near the bath tub, looking at the murky water with a sigh which you can hear on the journal.]
Bye, Hubert...
