Yes, we are the kind of nation that tortures, whether we like it or not. I'm not saying I support torture, I'm just saying that we've done it before and we'll do it again. Weren't the Japanese-American internment camps during WWII a form of torture? And these were American citizens who were singled out and made to live in deplorable conditions merely because they were of Japanese descent (not that I support torture for people who aren't American citizens, I'm just using this as an example of how the American government has tortured its own people before).

I've thought about a similar thing like this before, because I carry the Worst-Case Scenario gene (thanks, Dad). If I am robbed at gunpoint and the only thing of any value I have on me is my debit card, and the thief asks me for my PIN, how would s/he (let's be equal opportunity here) know if the four-digit number I'm giving her/him is my real PIN? S/he wouldn't. Threats of violence do not necessarily extract the truth from people.

The only kind of torture I support is the sodomizing of rapists with splintery broom handles. And I would personally volunteer for that. But again, that's...another rant. Growing marijuana plants in Oregon? Life sentence. Raping somebody? Five years, tops. You do the math. Okay, I'll stop now before I incite a lot of angry comments.
