::warning:: the following post contains a political rant; if you are easily offended, you are most likely a liberal and should therefore read it. but please remember, tolerate my views in the same way i tolerate yours... even though you are wrong....

in regards to the current political scene: the entanglement in Iraq, whether or not we should have gone in is now a moot point, the point now is whether or not the american people [and through them, the politicians... despite the fact that Washington, both Red and Blue, would have you believe the opposite] have the mental and moral courage to do what is right, not only in the current situation but in all aspects of politics does this count. In all aspects of political life, we must each do what is correct and I admit that 'correct' is different for each person, hence the need for a republic to amalgamate the majority while protecting the minority from injustice, though by no means does that mean coddling the minority. at any rate, the question is: is it the right thing to finish what we started, or to say it is no longer our problem and turn away from it? the former can become dangerously close to being colonizing, the latter can be a sign of weakness to the world. I, for one, see no benefit in turning loose now. for one, it is a sign that we cannot be trusted to fully support any effort in which we are engaged. for another, and on the internal rather than international front, how can we trust a leader who starts something and then refuses to see it through? or how can we trust a leader who cannot be depended upon reliably do what they believe in rather than what is politically expedient? when expediency can lead to bowing to mob rule or whatever the newest fashion in politics, whether or not it runs a course counter to that in which this country was founded and the freedoms in which Madison, Adams, Jefferson, et al. believed....

ok, now that i went to dinner... and came back... im not sure where this was going, so i'll have to come back and look at it again and maybe organize the random flow of thoughts that inspired this diatribe... so whatever
