Handmaiden Project 2018 - 29th post from Tumblr - Playlist/Song (Day Twenty-Nine)

Jun 01, 2020 19:23

Again, I made one response per day for the Handmaiden Project in 2018 and the headings are in response to the challenges for that day so it should be fairly obvious to folks what they were, even if there's no complete list anymore but what I copied and pasted in a document. Please keep reading below the cut for the post and the overall list! The formatting is a little odd but I can't figure out how to fix it. It might be easier to click over to Tumblr to read this.

Playlist/Song for handmaidens? Oh. I honestly don’t know about that. I mean, I listen to music a lot when I write, but that’s more because I listen to music a lot of the time no matter what I’m doing (unless my head hurts too much to tolerate a whole lot of excess sound). I mean, I’ve been known to joke with my idea beta about how certain songs are Padmé songs (or what I would often call “Padmé gets hit with a clue-by-four” songs. Anyone familiar with Mary Chapin Carpenter’s awesome “This Is Me Leaving You” song? Yeah. I used to joke about that being the song that should have been Padmé’s theme song instead of all the weeping and wailing they have her doing in RotS all the time with my idea beta and best friend) or Anakin songs or what-have-you, but I don’t really sit down and do playlists for things (mostly because, honestly? I hear SW theme music or I hear the kind of music that would play behind the scenes in the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica and its prequel, Caprica, or I hear the kind of music that would be playing behind the scenes in Firefly/Serenity or else I hear things like one might found scoring the background of the LotR and the Hobbit movies, if I’m “hearing” anything at all when I’m writing scenes for my SW stuff. Yep. I’m one of those weirdoes who can hear SW music and/or SW-esque music in the background as she’s writing. Make of that what you will). I have such eclectic taste in music that, even I were to try to sit down and do something like this, I’d probably end up with a list of songs that most people wouldn’t be familiar with (in fact, I tend to avoid most fan playlists for pretty much this same reason - because I tend to like older music, I’m largely unimpressed with a lot of the so-called music that’s been put out there since, oh, probably the ’90s [if not earlier. I don’t like a lot of the typical ’80s music, either, honestly], and my head doesn’t tolerate a lot of noise sometimes and usually I try to avoid things that might give me migraines. This is not to say that fan playlists are bad, because that’s not what I’m trying to say at all [I really like the idea of fan playlists for things, actually. I just wish that I could maybe come across some where I actually recognize the songs/artists for a good reason, is all]. It’s just that I don’t listen to them because I don’t recognize the songs/singers - or I do recognize them - and most of the time I’m not intrigued enough to take the chance on stumbling across something that’s going to invite a migraine. I have enough blasted migraines as it is, without knowingly encouraging more, folks).
Mostly, though, in general, I’d say for someone looking to make a handmaiden playlist, go for anything/everything that heavily features loyalty, selflessness, duty, sacrifice, and also very possibly unrequited love. (Or you could just put all the SW soundtracks on - and I do mean all of them. Yes, even the soundtracks for Rogue One and Solo. Those are just as much SW movies as the rest and arguably quite obviously do a helluva lot of a better job at maintaining the SW spirit than the so-called mess that is the sequel trilogy - and bask in the glow of brilliance while making some awesome handmaiden fan works of your own for the rest of us to love and make much over!)
