[Bends to shift the pile next to you. He seems to be taking an inordinate amount of time to do it, though- as though he's not ready to go just yet.]

[Shifting an unusual amount as you're taking your time. Looking out at the lake to then look back into the fire and out at the lake again, decidedly never turning to look your way.]

[In the end he never moved from where he fell and it seems like he's dreaming something uncomfortable since his brows are furrowed. But unlike someone there's no sleeptalking.]

[Has already been awake for quite some time. More unpleasant sleeptalking-inspiring dreams woke him before the sun was up, actually- and since then, he's been doing not much more than watching the changing light reflect in the water.]

[When the daylight's bright enough to see by, he'll rise to come and quietly rebuild the fire- and after a moment's hesitation, reach with gentle hands to shift you closer to it.]

[And return to his spot from the night before when he's finished, settling himself in and putting his head on his knees.]

AU of an AU, midnight

[Suddenly waking up in the middle of the night, fumbling in the dark after something that should have been there, before realizing where he is, and slowly sitting up.

Casting a look behind the almost dead fire and the shape by the tree on the other side and letting a long moment pass before making a decision and slowly standing up, leaning on a nearby tree beside him.]

[Is dead to the world; it took him a long time to get back to sleep, but now that he is, exhaustion's dragged him deep. There don't seem to be any dreams this time- or if there are, his muttering is quieter, at least.]

[Judging the distant to you, before taking a deep breath and starting to walk towards were you are lying. Doing his outmost to put as little weight as possible on that foot, but it'll be really slow, and it'll still hurt.]

[Then stopping just before you and looking down on you, unsure of what to really do now.]

[Twitches a little and shifts, but otherwise doesn't stir; since the last time he's slept, he has been run ragged, and nothing that quiet is about to wake him up.]

[He's actually going to jerk back a little at that, flinching as though hit. He opens his mouth as though to reply, but nothing comes to him, and he closes it again, still staring.]
