Women Who Still Don't Cling to 1950 Values Are Medeas in Disguise

At school, I told one of my classmates that I was going to shave my head and that the professor who had harped against butch lesbians (which is a rant of pure frustration in and of itself) probably wouldn't like it. This turned the discussion towards a friend of hers who was an elementary school teacher and the difficulties she and other faced in getting a teaching job.

Apparently, if, as a woman, you went to a job interview to acquire a teaching position with short hair, then you should wear a skirt. If you had long hair, it is okay to wear pants.

Because, as everyone knows, if a woman shows up to work with short hair and pants, she's really a butch lesbian who will eat your children's hearts, corrupt their souls, and plot wicked nasty things against them while subverting good old fashioned moral values.

Because, as everybody knows, you're automatically a Butch Lesbian Void of Moral Fiber if you don't have something that society has deemed feminine to vouch that you're pure of heart.

When my classmate told the friend that they couldn't fire her because they thought she was a lesbian, the friend replied that they would find some other reason to cloak the real issue. The friend was afraid to cut her hair because she enjoyed wearing pants to work.

This is ridiculous.

Since this is hearsay, I can't provide substantial proof, but truth to tell, I'm inclined to believe this for a variety of reasons (because I live in the Bible belt, articles I've read about parents reactions toward teachers who assign reading material that doesn't fit heterosexual standards, etc), and it pisses me off.

This is why I stand against socially constructed gender roles.

This is why I stand up for homosexual rights.

People who do not fit whatever people think is Normal or Standard or Morally Right are not out to get you. They are not evil incarnate. They do not have some devious scheme to take over the world.

Grow up.

wtf
