I do like the ease of having all my stories on one site, but I do often this wistfully of being able to have a different look for each story. I've tried to compensate with having each stories banner at the top of the page, but yeah. That whole "the internet is a picture book" post on Novelr made me want to cry.
The Vampyre Diaries layout is pretty... confuses me though cause isn't the narrator female?
Technically she is, but I don't think I'll ever directly mention it in the story.
That buggered me too, but it just seemed right for the story, even though it's a guy in the picture.
As for the Internet is a Picture Book -- maybe, maybe not. The most popular (that I know of) site is Tales of Mu and that is the plainest site that I have ever seen.
Honestly, I think readability is the main thing. And yours is definitely readable.
