You know, I had no idea Jason Katims was working on Friday Night Lights. Huh. Because I was reading the Rob Thomas interview at TWoP and he discusses how he was originally offered the job Jason Katims got in the end. Total head spin. I did a write up a while ago about the similar fate of my fave fandoms, similar storylines and the way I think ( Read more... )

Oh yeah. I mean . . . the whole Tess/Max thing was ridiculous in season two and I was never even a fan of Max/Liz so I know it wasn't my shipper heart being bias. I'm not talking about the relationship between Max and Tess itself but the way it was executed (especially since Kyle/Tess had been built up and people were starting to really like Tess at the time he reversed all the work he'd put it).

Jason Katims had no idea who had killed Alex when he wrote that arc. And when he got to the end they weren't sure if they'd be renewed so he knew he had to make someone the bad guy. Since Tess wasn't popular he just made it her . . . and turned the whole show on its head because suddenly Nacedo (who'd been protecting them the whole time) had this whacked out deal with Khivar to save Tess made fifty years ago (when he didn't know or care for Tess at all since she was still in a pod). Yeah. Jason Katims felt our wrath and I think he was way worse with the ridiculous story lines in season two than RT because it was obvious he had no plan sometimes. Unlike Rob Thomas who might lose his way with characters or try things out that don't work . . . but Rob always has the ending planned - he knows who did it when he kills someone. I think that's an important thing to know.

And JK's idea of a love story was making Liz give sacrifice after sacrifice while Max treated her like trash and gave nothing back. It sorta . . . sucked. And VM had the coma baby (which we all mock) but Tess had the alien abduction baby communicating with Max from outer space . . . eh, no. When I saw Emilie was pregnant on Lost I almost felt sorry for the poor girl. Typecasting sucks. Hee.

I think Jason Katims was ripped into by Roswell fans more than Rob Thomas is on the board I frequented. The slogan almost became 'Roswell sucks read fanfic'. lol And I don't think most fans are quite that angry with RT yet. Because with Rob it tends to be disappointment and frustration that fuels the anger, whereas with Jason we thought he really didn't put thought into what he was doing. At least, I didn't. I think he lost his way much worse in season two than RT did.

But on the other hand these are two shows with the ensemble casts I felt most connected to across the board. I loved all the characters in season one. So . . . I can't say I hate the creators. I just feel bitter about certain story choices that I think should have been obviously bad in the scripting room. lol

Yeah, the Tess/Max thing left a bad taste in my mouth. And the whole "Tess murdered Alex" thing was CLEARLY so last-minute, but I was so eager to have Tess gone at that point that I was entirely willing to buy it. But I HATED that it meant Nacedo was never on their side to begin with. I loved it when he was running around, being their alien mentor.

Seeing as VMARS is my first fandom experience, I've always wondered how it compares to other fandoms.
