The minimum wage increase didn't pass. This is because
1) People are retarded and listen to commercials, not common sense.
-a. Commercials are made by companies.
-b. Companies want money.
-c. Companies make money by charging but not paying their workers.
-d. It will say, "This commercial was funded by the group of caring about your needs greatly." That is a lie. Those groups, if you care to do enough research into them, don't exist, but are merely "non-profit partnerships," so to speak, with parent companies. I.e. the company changes its name and calls itself a nonprofit, then says it cares about you while stealing your wallet. If a person did this, it would be called fraud, identity theft, and robbery. Companies are not people, though, so they're fine to do whatever the fuck they want.
-e. $5.15 an hour is not enough to live. Current calculations show that the standard of living requires about $8.18/hour on a full-time basis. $5.15 doesn't even pay for two gallons of gas to get to work by.
-f. Raising minimum wage increases inflation, it's true.
--f1-- But we need it to pay for the inflation that's already risen.
--f2-- And besides, Bush says inflation good! (I don't agree, but if he says it and you're all retarded too, you should follow him into the demise he's creating for you).
--f3-- And inflation is inevitable anyways. The key is to be able to fucking live.
2) They tacked on a lot of bullshit onto the minimum wage increase bill, meaning that voting for it would have been also voting for a whole lot of other neat shit.
-a. This is what politicians do to make sure that nothing gets done.
-b. It's underhanded, ridiculous, and retarded.
-c. What possible additions need to be made to the simple rule, "Pay people enough so that they can eat"? Seriously now!
-d. Now I can't begrudge people too much, because for all I know the lack of the bill being passed means something really underhanded and malevolent was stopped. But how can I know? I wasn't allowed to vote.
As for the mayorial turn out, I haven't heard the results but I know the guy I didn't want won because of the reasons I outlined in that post.
