There are a number of other articles on this from National Geographic, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, abd several others, all agreeing that the world -- not just Japan, not just the Pacific, but the world itself -- is in one helluva mess.
Articles in some media suggest that all of this is hysterically overblown, that we should all be good little children, listen to our governments when they say there is no problem here, and go back to sleep and have nice dreams. However, various isotopes of plutonium, the deadliest poison (i.e., not only radioactive but chemically toxic in its own right) have been found all across the Pacific, coming from leaks from the crippled Fukushima reactors. The plant management is running 300 tons of seawater through the plant and back out into the Pacific Ocean again as coolant, carrying huge amounts of highly radioactive crap from the plant with it.
Tepco built and, erm, has maintained Fukushima from the beginning. Tepco is General Electric's subordinate partner, and General Electric has been paying out hundreds of millions of dollars to keep the media from presenting articles on this and to try to convince the public that "Nothing to see here, folks, move along, move along," but the word is starting to get around in spite of GE's and the governments of the USA and Canada to assist in the cover-up/
If you've been eating wild-caught seafood from the Pacific, I strongly suggest that you eat plenty of fresh, raw garlic and take sodium alginate, available in health food stores, to clean whatever amount of radioactive/poisonous crud you have in your body from ingestion of deadly isotopes. Try to purchase produce from those parts of this country east of the Rockies if you can -- rainwater evaporated from the Pacific has turned up in West Coast states' produce and meats in the form of a certain amount of radioactive contamination.
