My nerves are shot

We just had a fire alarm go off. It turned out to be a false alarm, but the damned thing is so loud and pitched in such a way that it's like an air-raid siren to which has been added strobe lights. I am not kidding -- it sounds like the end of the world is on the doorstep and barging into the house. This is good if you want to get people up and moving in the event of a fire. But it happens so often, and is so disturbing when it does, that I wouldn't be surprised if the next one gave me a heart attack. I can't move. I have nowhere to go, and couldn't move my stuff even if I did. So I have to endure this. And I don't think I can. My nerves are shot.
