Hannah says . . .

My kitten, Hannah, stunned me this morning in her response to my letting her out of the bathroom (because she loves to climb the furniture, and could damage things that way, she has to sleep in there until she grows out of it). As she came through the door I had just opened for her, she said "Ankh oo." She did it when I gave her a treat yesterday.

When PuggsleyTwo, the cat I had before PuggsleyOne, whom I had before Hannah, was about 16, one day he came to me and said, articulating it very carefully, "Unh ow." Because it sounded so much like "want out," I asked him, "Puggsley, do you want out?" He nodded. So I went to the front door and let him out -- and, as he went through it to go outside, he, too, said "Ankh oo."

"Thank you" isn't so hard to say for a cat. The only part of it their mouths really aren't shaped to pronounce is that pesky "th." "Ankh oo" is a damned good approximation of it.

And apparently it's something Hannah picked up at a very young age, because she's 8 months old now and I got her less than two months ago.

They talk, dammit!
