Winter in the house of Summer

Sep 16, 2011 19:54

It's only September 16 today; astronomical Autumn -- the one I go by -- doesn't begin until the 23rd of this month. It's still Summer. And yet yesterday, coming home on the bus from the store, I was pelted with a few tiny crystal of ice falling from above. Not many, not a hail- or snowstorm or even a short burst of wintery temper. Even so, they were ice crystals, dammit.

According to Weather.com, frigid La Niña has come back, and will be staying with the world for another year or so. For whatever reason, she was replaced last Spring by La Nada, and El Niño has done a disappearing act. Winter is going to be nasty. Count on it.
