Pixar Announces Two New Films: Dinosaurs And Inside The Brain Here's the outrage:
"First, Bob Peterson, a longtime studio vet, will direct a film that explores what would have happened had the asteroid that scientists believe hit the earth and wiped out the dinosaurs, instead missed and allowed the species to move forward [italics mine]."
Quote, unquote.
Which species, dammit?! The
Superorder Dinosauria, a member of
Branch Dinosauriformes and thus of
Class Reptilia (more modern
phylogenetic classifications based on
cladistics studies give them a somewhat different place on the
Tree of Life, and comprise numerous Orders, even more Suborders and Families, and countless Genera and Species of animals. That stupid, stupid sentence quoted above could have instead said "and allowed the archosaurs to move forward," something intelligent, damn near anything else acknowledging just how diverse a phylogenetic group they were and are. Who writes this junk, anyway? Whoever it is had damned well brush up on the biology of dinosaurs if he's ever to write anything worth a damn about dinosaurs. And whoever he had for teachers should be boiled in oil. Slowly. And the remains fed to the nearest dinosaurs around -- you know, the ones with wings, particularly the carnivorous ones, especially the ravens. They do so enjoy a good feed, especially if it's still wiggling a little . . .
