I'm moderately pro-Israel*, but this kind of disturbs me. The treatment given to US Presidents in the state of the union is a little problematic already, but that sort of sycophantic applause from our Congress for a foreign leader is troubling.

*My primary qualification here is I don't by into the myth of Israeli liberality, but I don't really care much about how they run their country, either. I want the US to stop giving Israel aid, but I also want Israel to just annex the majority of the West Bank and East Jerusalem and be honest about it and stop this insane "peace process" which has done no one any good, not Israel, not the Palestinians, not their Arab neighbors, and not the US.

That wasn't "sycophantic." They simply dug what he had to say, and they're sick and tired of President Obama's idiocy. As Americans, they're entitled to express their opinions, and as members of Congress, they can give that expression real punch.

Look to the presentation the media make of any important event as well as those present during that event if you want to quarrel with it -- the media could make the Second Coming of Christ look tacky, and would in fact work hard to do so.
