Dear liberals: about "birthers"

Apr 27, 2011 12:09

Actually, the question most of us had was why in the world did the White House take such pains to cover up the man's birth-certificate, and ditto his school transcripts and the rest of the paper-trail that follows people through life any more? If there isn't a problem with any of it -- and certainly there doesn't seem to be one with his birth certificate -- then is Obama so neurotic that, like a maiden aunt crossing her legs every time someone even mentions sex, he has a compulsion never to reveal anything of importance about himself? That may actually be the case, and if so, that renders him unfit for that high office, in which he is the man with his finger on the nuclear trigger. If not, what's his problem? Does he have Martians in his ancestry, or what?

BTW, "birther" is, like most other such labels, just one more way to dehumanize people who disagree with you, making it much easier to condemn them to hell rather than have an honest discussion with them to find out why they believe what they believe. I realize that many of those "birthers" do the same thing to their opponents, and that the same is true of countless other people, regardless of what the issue is, or who has taken which side of it. That doesn't make it any better. Everyone is starting to devolve into a state of permanent road rage, which does not to anything to preserve the civilization on which we are all dependent for our very survival. Robert A. Heinlein said that when a civilization loses its manners, that civilization is ready for the undertaker. Which is what's happening to our civilization. Do you really want that?
