PET OF THE WEEK: Kind and Well-Mannered Winston Has Lost His Ears And Needs A Loving Home - Kirkland, WA Patch

Handsome, blue-eyed, white-haired 11-year-old cat suffered carcinoma and was left out in the cold, but is healthy now with an excellent prognosis.

Winston the cat is 11-years-old and some of those years have bit a bit rough, so he is seeking a family to give him a loving home.

The gentle and kind cat remains most handsome even after having most of his ears removed because of squamous cell carcinoma, according to Marilyn Hendrickson of Meow Cat Shelter in Houghton.

It has been more than a week since the lifesaving operation and Winston is doing well. His prognosis is excellent. The sutures will be removed next week and then he will be ready for a new home.

Winston shows his love and appreciation with face licks and ear nibbles and is very well-behaved. He used to live with a local family, but in November they moved and left him and two other cats behind, outside in the frigid weather.

He is up to date on vaccines, de-wormings, is neutered, has been tested for feline aids and leukemia and is microchipped.

But he is not an outside cat. Being blue-eyed and white-haired, he lacks the appropriate pigmentation that protects him from the damaging ultraviolet rays. So he is very susceptible to sun damage.

Because he has lived with other cats and children, he would do well with both. If you can give this deserving cat a home or can show support in other ways, visit www.meowcatrescue.org or call 425-822-6369.
