jordan179 (in this comment) came up with the most marvelous analogy for chimpanzees vs. bonobos:

"Chimp society is a biker gang, bonobo society a degenerate Renaissance court."

How would we characterize our species, then? A circus on wheels? Disneyland with teeth? The possibilities are endless . . .
