The likelihood is that Benedict SVI's solid German practicality and common sense, combined with his strong Christian faith, would keep him from doing any such thing. But if there's any chance that he would buy into the line that that ayatollah is pushing, please, please, please, may all the great saints of the Church and God Himself stand between us all and that horrible possibility. Islamic doublethink may convince Muslims of that idiocy; let us hope that the history of Western civilization and all of that on which it is founded will keep us from falling into that terrible trap.
