In September 2007, when Petraeus was testifying on the progress of the surge under the Bush administration, the George Soros-funded MoveOn.org group spent $75,000 to run an ad in The New York Times headlined: "General Petraeus or General Betray Us?"
The controversial ad campaign was widely denounced as a vicious attack on the patriotism of a general credited with implementing the Bush strategy that avoided a serious military setback in Iraq.
Now, Obama's selection of that same general to lead the war in Afghanistan is widely being heralded as a stroke of genius.
Or I might say a stroke of irony. This is why it's a bad idea to let politics get in the way of getting the job done.
Generally speaking, though, it looks like 0blabla is having a troubled relationship with the military. I recall that he couldn't get a cheer out of them when he went on tour, so next time they hand-picked a group of soldiers who voted for him. That's pretty sad.

Yep. Which is why a smart President turns the job over to those who can do it best -- in this case, the military -- and then gets the hell out of their way. Only if something goes so wildly, obviously wrong with the job that it's clear that those particular experts weren't the right ones for the job should the President step in, and only then to find somebody better qualified for it, turn the job over to them, and get out of their way. Which Obama doesn't seem to know how the hell to do.
