Well, it's that time of year again! I haven't updated here over break, mainly because I really didn't spend that much time on the computer that wasn't engaged in other activities, such as Christmas shopping, Critters critiques, or Popsicleman. That said, I had a really busy, social and fun Christmas break. Lots of visiting friends and lots more friends visiting. Lots of food, not all of it healthy :)
Particular highlights of my Christmas hauls:
-A 1 gig mp3 player! Yay! Now I can cart multiple albums to work without having to risk the actual CD's! It's also a big step up from my jump drive, which only held 128 MB, so I could only take maybe 25 songs to work, and then I needed a computer to listen to it. (Also, it is not an Apple i-Anything. iPods are neat, but they're also much more expensive than comparable products, since you are paying for the name. After careful 'net search, I decided to ask for a Zen Nano.)
-Several awesome CD's, including Loreena McKennitt, Amy Correia, and Tori Amos. Some I asked for, some I hadn't, but all are awesome.
-MirrorMask on DVD.
-Two Moleskine journals: one the usual pocket-sized, and one full-sized with awesome removable leather cover :D I can't wait to start using them!
-In the book department, I received three folk- and myth-related books from Anne, for my Walker research! One is a very thorough collection of American folk tales, another an anthology of Jack tales, and the third is Native American myths and legends. From Tom, I got a copy of Neverwhere :) I'm going to run out of bookshelf room soon--not that that's a bad thing!
-The Complete Far Side collection, from Brian, of course :) Gary Larson for all!
-A nice indoor fountain from Sarah
-My parents also got me a really soft, beautiful coral-colored sweater.
I am currently a-swim with CD's and books, many new, many borrowed. So much stuff to wade through! It's a bit overwhelming, but I'll get through it bit by bit :)
Man, this entry is quite full of smiley emoticons. Anyway.
My new year's resolutions for the past couple of years have focused mainly on making more time for my creative pursuits. I definitely think I have accomplished this. So, how about some new goals?
-I resolve to attempt to kick my always-arriving-late habit.
-I resolve to complete a new Walker-related short story every month this year, or until I run out of Walker stories I want to write. This world will be my creative project for the year. The monthly short story will be in addition to any other creative goals/research.
That said, how about a
