Oh man, my grey matter is so totally fried today I'm not even sure if I'll be able to write during my breaks today. Or even read. I just want soft, cottony silence up there.
Last night I had major writing time. In addition to reading and critiquing a critters piece, I had another good hour and a half of Mae Fortune time. It was a pretty difficult scene, because it was one of those instances where two characters are having a conversation and I want to get a certain amount of information across, but I have to do it in such a way that the characters' conversation actually flows with some realism. I also had to skirt the dangerous edge of the dreaded Information Dump.
So I managed after an hour and a half to finish the scene (and chapter 10!) and then immediately spent the next hour and twenty minutes watching an anime movie. But not only was my brain burnt out before I even sat down in front of the TV, but the cassette had to be a third-generation fansub (at least). The translation was often clunky and nonsensical, the subtitles kept shaking because of the poor video quality, and then there were seizure-inducing space battles on top of the shaky video. By the time the movie had rolled onto a silly-to-the-point-of-annoying "let's stop the enemy's guns by singing the generic J-Pop movie theme song!" denouement, all I wanted to do was crawl into bed and hide. Though, to be fair, I would have enjoyed the movie a lot more if the video quality hadn't made me want to claw my eyes out.
So, this morning saw my brain on the mend, and I recovered with a healthy dose of perky Barenaked Ladies as I readied myself for work.
Then, on the way to work I saw what appeared to be either a turkey or a peahen blocking traffic on the corner of Fifth and Craig, slowly observing its surroundings and moving ever-so-lethargically across the intersection as confused drivers lightly tapped their horns at it.
. . .
Can I just call the day quits and go back to bed?
