Brilliant! Our Toyota has headlights that automatically turn on and off when the car is started or turned off. This is very convenient. Most of the time. However, we also have an autostart. This means I can push a button on my remote from the toastiness of my house and the car starts itself and sits their idling and warming up for fifteen minutes while I get everybody ready and out to the now toasty car. This is incredibly convenient in the cold cold winters up here. It also has a wonderful function that I can activate wherein it checks the temperature every two to three hours and, if it's below -10, it will start itself and run for about fifteen to twenty minutes and then shut back off. It does this repeatedly and this is essential when it gets below -20 or so because a car left at those temperatures all night long will not start come morning. And since we can't plug the car in, this is critical.

So this is all fine and dandy and part of life up here. Unfortunately, when the autolights coincide with the autostart, bad things can happen. The lights stay on (for convenience) after the car is turned off until the door is opened. Obviously, in the middle of the night when the car is starting itself, the door is not opening. Thus! The lights stay on indefinitely, unless I remember to turn them into the off position.

Which I didn't do last night.

Guess what had a completely dead battery this morning. Go on! Guess! *sigh*

Thankfully, the wonderful, fabulous, incredibly tolerant, humanplacebo was able to drive up and pick us all up. And he bought me a coffee after I realized I left my work badge and wallet in the car at home.

A million, billion thank yous are not enough.
