Part Three, or Blackjack and Typhlo Monopolize The Comm

When Cynthia returned to the ward the next day, the orderly who cleared her immediately whispered "You'd best watch yourself."

A scream of "Unworthy FOOLS!" from Cyrus's room said more than the nurse could. The guard who had been outside was gone from view, into the struggle inside ( Read more... )

Cynthia listened intently to the doctor's words, frowning and shaking her head. She marched up to the bed, glaring at it's occupant.

"You never learn, do you? Have you been listening at all to what I've been telling you?" she snapped, quickly giving the nurses a comforting smile.

And Cyrus didn't pay her any mind, glaring at the guard who had put him there as the man cuffed him at the wrist again and the nurses restrained his legs. "Fools...you have no idea who you're dealing with, what I'm capable of, what I will do to you..."

One of the nurses prodded his shirt up and began to redo his bandages, revealing his scarred stomach.

"S-such miserable surroundings...so unworthy of my light..." The sedatives were starting to kick in, and his head drooped back to the pillow.

Cynthia just sighed, resting her face in her palm, watching the nurses fix his bandages. The wounds on his stomach were surprisingly severe; she hadn't realised that she'd clawed him so hard. But it had been necessary at the time, so she felt no remorse.

She moved up next to the bed, ensuring that she was not hindering the nurses. "Nice to see that you're being polite, pleasant and co-operative, as always, Cyrus." she said sardonically, looking down at him. She then inclined her head respectfully at the medical staff. "Please accept my apologies on behalf of him. He's had a...difficult time, this past few weeks. He doesn't mean any offence, really." And she glared at him, as if daring him to argue with her.

His muscles were weak from the sedatives, but his glare was as strong as it had ever been.

"You're the only person he talks to," the doctor reiterated. "Try and get something out of him. Last night, after he spoke to you, he was pleasant for the first time since he's been here. But then this morning..." The woman tossed her hands up in a very unprofessional motion before exiting. A few moments later, she was followed by everyone else, leaving the champion alone with the bound prisoner.

Cyrus stared at the door, then at Cynthia, then chuckled. "They trust you with me, do they? How very interesting. You haven't been telling them what I've said, have you?"

"Now why," she said, pulling the chair back to the bed, from where the nurses had moved it out of the way, "would I do something like that? Don't you trust me?"

"When I tell you that you are the only one I can trust, that does not mean I have much trust in you." His voice was faint, as if he was exhausted. "Only that you are slightly over the line."

"But you still trust me enough to speak very freely with me." she retorted. "That says a lot, you know. To answer your question; no, I have not spoken with anyone about our...interactions. That's purely between you and me, and you know that."

"Good. You are bound to silence, you know; like a priest taking confession. It is the only thing I demand other than your attention."

"I noticed that you do a great deal of demanding, Cyrus, but not a lot of asking." she replied wryly. "Frankly, I'm getting rather sick of your attitude. If you want my attention, my silence, my help, then you will ask for it. Not demand it from me."

A threat? Dully, Cyrus mulled over his options. If he sent her away, she would tell them everything. If he asked her to stay, he was establishing that she was fully in charge.

"Please stay." He was rather disturbed by how swiftly he said it.

She immediately beamed at him when she heard his reply. "Okay! See, now that wasn't so hard, was it?"

She stood up then, wandering over to the window, which was covered by the blind. "Mind if I let a bit of sun in? It's so dark in here."

He waved a hand slightly, attempting to indicate that he didn't care.

"Excellent." She drew back the blinds, and the sunlight flooded the room. She sighed happily, feeling the warmth on her skin. "Ah, much better. The mood of this place has improved already, don't you think?"

Normally, Cyrus would have objected to such a claim, but something about the light made him feel better. It settled him, and he smiled faintly.

"...the sedatives will wear off shortly," he whispered. "They are short-term drugs so they could bind me."

"Well, if that's the case, I'll tell you about my day until you're ready to speak!" She was in a very good mood, to her surprise, and felt surprisingly chatty. She returned to her seat, and crossed her legs.

"I had a challenger this morning, at 10am; they were a complete pushover, though; I took them out with only two of my pokemon. It was great, actually; my pokemon needed a pick-me-up. I actually had another match scheduled for 2pm, but after watching this morning's bout, the trainer decided to, aha, postpone their challenge for a while." She really was feel very benevolent, despite the fact that she knew her good mood would probably dwindle once he started talking to her.

Oddly, the smile remained. "You came to Eterna from the League building in that short a time?"
