Ok, seriously, I know airline pricing is completely fucked-up, but this is just ridiculous. Booking another trip east next month, we have to coordinate getting myself to and from Boston as efficiently as possible, Kat to Boston and home by way of Ithaca, on the same flight out as my sister who will be visiting us. Fun times.
So it ended up making more sense for us to take a flight into JFK and ride up with friends heading to Boston by car (Even though Boston's closer to where we eventually need to be, we have no way to get from Logan to our final location without spending huge sums on a rental car). Long story short, trying to get a direct flight to Boston did not work (JetBlue wanted $300 one-way), to get a reasonable price they make me change planes in NY. Fine, give me a direct flight into NY. They won't do that either (for less than $300). To get to NY cheaply I need to change planes in...you guessed it: Boston.
In other words, in order to get a flight into NY, it is much cheaper for me to book a flight to Boston that changes planes in NY and not take the last leg of the flight than it would be to book a direct flight to NY (which, I can only assume, would put me on the same plane anyway). Likewise, to get to Boston, it is cheaper to book a flight to NY that changes planes in Boston.
I am told that buying a ticket and skipping out on the last leg of the connection (as I plan to do) will screw up their system or mark me as a possible terrorist when I try to check-in for my return flight, but at this point I really don't care. Let their system crash; they've caused us enough fuss and bother already.
