Kat and I flew to and from the East Coast this weekend (for a reason other than Green Key, unfortunately) on American Airlines. We flew American because it was cheapest at the time we bought the tickets, but it was just awful. Various delays, which I can deal with as pretty much par for the course, but bad otherwise too. Midwest Airlines is awesome. On most of their flights, you have 2 by 2 seating in Business-class-size leather seats with foot rests... at coach prices, and on new airplanes. You have to pay for meals onboard, but they are actually worth the money ($5-10, depending on what you want). Plus they bake fresh, yummy chocolate chip cookies on every flight. And they seem to have a knack for employing only friendly people- I have yet to hear any of them be surly, even when dealing with passangers complaining about a delay. Top-knotch service.
The trouble is, it doesn't do you much good if you're not traveling to or from Milwaukee. That's their hub (well, that and Kansas City). They don't fly too much to the west coast. Though I think you could fly to coast to coast on them (at least in the summer- SF is a seasonal route)- but your layover would be Milwaukee rather than O'Hare.
I should also warn that they have "saver service" on some routes rather than their "signature service." Saver service doesn't have the nice seats, but still has the good food and friendly people. Plus, for some unexplained reason the West Coast to Milwaukee flights don't have cookies.
