Firstly, let me apologize for leading you on with my last post, saying that I was going to visit this past weekend. I ended up absolutely exhausted on Sunday after I got out of work around 2pm. My brilliant planning started with volunteering for 8am shift on Sunday because they were short-handed. I was also scheduled to close the night before, ( Read more... )

I second Sky's post. I would say if you want to do it go for it, but take it slow. I like that you have a plan and I would urge you to continue to track everything thing that you have be tracking. I think that having those cold hard numbers could be good just in case, as Sky says, things start not going your way. That way you can look at those numbers as facts you can analyze. I think that it would be very wise to hold onto your job for health insurance- you never know when you might need it and it could be the most important thing to have.

Thanks everyone, got just what I asked for. :) As far as the insurance goes, that is definitely a concern and unfortunately I don't think I qualify for the insurance at work at the moment. I missed the 90 day enrollment because I wasn't averaging enough hours per week to be considered "full time" even though I was supposed to be hired as full time and despite working at least 5 days each week. The cause of this is actually something I also enjoy about this restaurant I'm in. I usually go in around 5pm and am out most days by 11pm plus or minus an hour. When I first started and up through my enrollment period I was not working until 10 or 11pm because we were having four servers on and I would generally be out by 9pm. While I was still making more money per hour and per week than I have at any other job, I just didn't get the hours for full time. It is possible now that we have lost the usual "closer" person and are about to lose a full time room service person that I can get closer to the full time hours, but I don't really ( ... )

Hey barry,

I also like that you've thought it out and have a plan & a spreadsheet (Being an inveterate planner myself,) and that you've also considered the addictive nature of gambling. I myself am afraid to gamble for just that reason -- that and the old "the house always wins" cliche. While poker does involve a great deal of skill in addition to luck, I'm glad you would make this a "slow & steady" transition. You may find that spending all that time in the lights & glitz of a casino is not as much fun, after a while, and be happy that you have another job to keep your life in balance. Or you may totally love it and work your way into full-time pokering. :) In any case, sorry you didn't make it up this weekend & much empathy for the stomach cramps! I'm home from work today, myself.

Hun, I've said it before and I'll say it again. What ever you decide I am behind you 100%. I know how carefully you have planned this. I know you've considered all the angles and surprises. I agree, the "slow and steady" approach is the way to go and I'm glad to see you've got a "step-down" method in place. As long as it's not affecting our family in a negative way I am all for it.
