Large Parties
Another thing that has come up as somewhat annoying at work is large parties that suddenly change their mind. This past weekend we had a bunch of soccer teams staying at the hotel so it was pretty busy. My last party of the night was a reservation for 16. Some start showing up and saying it may be more. So I bring in some extra tables and setups and fill the waters. They end up with 9 teenagers, all the adults leave. That particular situation was only a little annoying, still made an okay tip. Last night we had a reservation for 20 and my friend Tony and I were going to split the party. Because they were coming in at 5:15-5:30, and Tony and I were on at 5:00, we had to rush to get the tables setup and water poured. Well, by 6:00 nobody had shown up when finally the man in charge of the party (who was sitting at the bar this whole time) comes down and tells us it is only going to be 7 or 8 people and they are going to eat at the bar. You know they had to be aware of this at some point during the day, and probably a lot sooner than 1 hour after the reservation. It is very frustrating to lose a big party like that, especially since we were aware it was all adults and they were going to be drinking. Average per person in our restaurant is about $30, so that was $600 in sales and $54 each in automatic gratuity (plus any they might have added on top) that Tony and I didn't get. Add in the fact they were drinking and they could have gotten up to $40 or $50/person. Just wish either people had more common courtesy toward servers or at least offered to pay them something when they see you running around setting up tables you aren't going to use.
Anyways, I am bringing Danielle to Mass. tomorrow (Saturday 6/2) for her retrieval surgery, I am supposed to work that night at 5pm so I wouldn't be able to hang out too late but would love to see anyone for lunch and/or maybe a movie or something. Give me a call anytime morning, noon, or night and if I don't answer just leave a message and an okay time to call. Sorry about not calling you back Katie, was worried about interrupting classes or work all this week and my weekend was so hectic I forgot about your call.
