They had been going out for a year. However nothing had changed with their relationship at all, Sapphire thought bleakly. No matter how many times she had confessed to Ruby it had always been the same.
Sapphire loved him. Why didn't her feelings ever reach him?

Their one year anniversary was today, and Ruby was to say more than nervous about it. He had spent the entire day without seeing his beautiful Sapphire, it was setting him on edge. It had been so long since he'd spent a day without her, the dark haired boy felt uneasy. He had cleaned their secret base three times today, groomed all his pokemon a measly six times, checked over his gifts at least eight times thinking something wasn't perfect. It was after all a big day
Today was the day he was planning on (re-)confessing back to the brunette. He had always played off her feelings like it wasn't anything serious, however he knew he was hurting the girl, it was something Ruby never failed to notice.
He was going to fix that today.

The brunette walked solemnly towards their secret base, becoming more and more depressed with each step she took. Ruby, had wanted her to come over to their base no sooner nor later than 6 PM this evening, because he told her with passionate gleam in his eyes, 'I've got a new dress for you to try on! It's a surprise though so you can't see it until 6 PM tomorrow!'.
The girl let out a sigh, gazing out into the setting sun. Why did she put so much effort into a relationship that was never going to work? Why did she give all of her feelings to him when they were never returned? Ruby did nothing but play a cruel game on her heart, and it was becoming harder and harder to keep playing with him. Ruby was far to kind to her though, always putting up with her petty confessions, always giving her gifts, always hanging around her, even though it was obvious he didn't feel the same. They were far to different for each other.
Sapphire hadn't even realized she had been crying. She sniffled a little. There was no way she could face him like this.

Sapphire was late. Actually she had been more than late, more like an hour and a half late. Ruby was worried. Actually he was on edge, Sapphire was never late to any of their arrangements. The girl might be a little wild, but that didn't mean she was never punctual. Frantically, Ruby continued to pace around their base, biting his nails uncharacteristically, becoming more worried by the second. What if something happened to her? He knew she was more than capable to handle something on her own, but what if something like a Salamence were to approach her? Would she be alright? His worries kept becoming larger and more extensive, getting to be somewhere near impossible for it to even happen.
But nonetheless he was still worried.
"Alright everyone! Come on out, I have a favor to ask of you!" Ruby called out to his pokemon as he released them. Hiding his worrying, Ruby put on a stern expression for his pokemon, "Sapphire has gone missing, and I need to you to help me look for her! If you find her bring her back here!" His pokemon gave a nod and were off.
Once all his pokemon left, his stern facade faltered and the boy was back to frantically worrying again. There was no way he could sit and wait for his pokemon to return, so with that lingering thought the boy left the base to search for her as well.

Ruby had looked high and low for Sapphire but she was no where to be found, he had checked the Birch's, as well as Sapphire's favorite rural areas. Where could she be? His searching was slowly becoming less and less precise and it was becoming more haphazard by the second. Maybe she really had been hit by a meteor or something just as disastrous! The boy kept running not really looking where he was going, he stumbled over a loose root and fell face first into a puddle of mud. Frantic tears ran down his face, Sapphire, where are you?the boy let out a small sob slowly loosing hope. She probably didn't care to put up with his antics anymore. After all why would a wild girl like Sapphire care about testing out his girly things.
The dark haired boy let out a small chuckle, and slowly got off the ground. It was no use he had no idea where she could be, and his clothes were ruined how could he show himself to her like this. His pride just wouldn't allow it. Ruby walked carelessly out of the forestry area having given up.
Sapphire sat on the beach staring up at the stars. She let out a light grimace, "Hehe, I wonder what Ruby is doin' right now, I wonder if he even cares where I am?" the girl said out to no one in particular. Sapphire had actually hoped that maybe Ruby would come looking for her, but she knew someone like him would do something like that. She sighed, and buried her head in her knees. At least she had stopped crying.

Ruby had made his way out of the forestry area, and had ended up at the shore, and was kicking a rock listlessly. Ruby not really listening, heard a voice in the distance, but he vaguely heard his name being called out. Could it really be? Maybe she hadn't been imploded by a meteor! Filled with hope he ran towards that voice.
"S-Sapphire?" he called out unexpectedly. The boy saw a figure hunched over in the distance, he nervously approached it, hoping it to be the brunette.
Sapphire looked up surprise written on her face, "H-how did ya find me?"
"It was an accident. Why didn't you show up?" He looked at the ground, becoming more nervous, quietly he let out, "I was w-worried."
A light blush adorned her face. Ignoring his question, she asked, "What happened to your clothes?"
"I fell." He looked back to her again, noticing her puffy red eyes, "What's wrong Sapph?"
"N-nothing, really. Ya don't need to worry about it." She hugged her knees a little tighter.
It was awkwardly silent for a few minutes, both trainers trying to figure how to say exactly what they were feeling. She picked herself off the ground and walked over past Ruby, her back facing him, she was prepping herself for what she was about to say the tears forming in her eyes. Cautiously Ruby turned to her.
"Ruby, I--"
"Sapphire! I'm sorry," Sapphire started crying, so that's what tonight was about, he was preparing to end it, she knew he was sick of her, she knew-- Ruby wrapped strong arms around her and held her in a tight embrace. "I'm sorry, I never told you how I really felt, I'm sorry for always toying with you." His embrace tightened, "Sapph, I really do like you, no I love you, and I always have!"
The tears rolled down her face. She turned to him, "W-why? Why didn't ya ever tell me?" she brought her fists up and weakly pounded them onto his chest, "Why!? WHY?" Sapphire stared up at him, her tears still falling.
He looked down to her with small pitiful smile, my pride got in the way, and for that I'm sorry, I really am Sapph.
Ruby leaned down, and moved in closer to her, "W-what are you doin'?"
He smirked, "What I should've done awhile ago." With that Ruby closed the difference between them, and placed a small chaste kiss on her lips.
The two parted from each other, linking hands, they made their way back to their base.
"Ruby, ya clothes are ruined!" she told him with a toothy grin.
"W-well it's not like I meant for this to happen! I told you I fell! If you had been on time, my clothes would have been fine!"
"Well if you didn't deny ya feelins' this wouldn't have happened!" she said in a fiesty manner and a joyful smile.
Their hands never left the other's, and they walked back together, bickering lightly, everything being more than fine between the two.

Ruby's pokemon waited patiently at the base knowing well that they'd be fine once the two returned.
