First days from the slowest nickname-obsessed player ever

Mar 08, 2011 22:23

Before I start, just know - I'm slow. I'm a very slow Pokemon player. I poke around... talk to people just because, and I like to level my Pokemon evenly. I also nickname them all, even the boring ones. So many posts will involve musings such as "Pondered long and hard on a nickname for X, used a thesaurus and researched ancient Egyptian names too." Yes, I'm strange. I know.

So, I started up Pokemon White intent on having a Female Snivy as my starter, fully intending to restart a million times before getting the much rarer gender. To my pleasant surprise, after a so-so beginning story, the first battle....as I eagerly await the gender of my starter.... female! First try - what are the odds!? This must mean grand adventures to follow. I had already prepared a nickname, so when Professor Juniper asked if I wanted to nickname my new Snivy, of course I said YES! Newly-christened Jade and I then began on our journey to Route 1.

The non-skippable "catch a Pokemon" tutorial was...well, lame. For well-seasoned Pokemon players this game will feel a bit slow starting, since it goes through a longer learning phase than others I've found. It even shows you how to use a Pokemon center, which I don't remember in other games? It has been awhile though.

Caught myself an adorable Lillipup on route one, a female I named Carrie. I was thinking after Carrie from Sex and The City kinda? I'm not sure why, but Carrie just popped into my head and I had to name her with my first impression. Then, caught a Patrat, just to round out my Pokedex. A pretty ugly Pokemon, I couldn't think of a name for him! So I looked up what he evolved into and decided on the plain name of 'Scout', but while typing it in, I tried using the QWERTY entry system and accidentally named him "SC"? So...I guess that'll be his name. Just evolve him and let him sit around likely anyway....SC it is! My poor typing skills have chosen.

Continuing on to Accumula Town (odd name?) I healed up, watched the little "Pokemon Liberation" skit. Interesting concept I have to say? We'll see where it goes. I then explored the town; yes, every building. Went up the stairs and listened to the piano and drum playing NPC's. Yes, I'm odd. One of the NPCs in the houses gave me a Pokeball though, so if you want and extra free one go ahead and talk to everyone really quick.

Popping through the tunnel to route two (not sure what that billboard thing is for? Just to be flashy I guess...) I'm SO HAPPY to finally get the running shoes from Mom - hooray! Though at this point I must comment and say that so far the UI for White/Black is not pleasing me as much as the SS/HG UI did. In SS/HG you could permanently turn your running shoes on with a quick obvious button that was always in the touch screen for you, as well as a quick look at your Pokemon team, Bag, and a quick one-button Save. Brilliant in every way! Why oh WHY did they go BACKWARDS with Black/White!?!?! It's seriously bothering me :(

And sadly, with that rant, it was alas time to get this post together and get to sleep. I'll probably do a few battles along route two before finally succumbing to sleep tonight, but I must be up early for work! As I said, super slow Pokemon player, so I'll probably be more ranty than the other two Pokemon experts on here, but I hope you enjoy nonetheless :)
