Pokemon Amie

Nobody outside of online videos has seemed to have done a good job explaining pokemon amie so I'll edit my comment from Polygon on how to work it so you can get your unique pokemon and raise your pokemon's affection for the benefits.

You have the 2 stats which is fullness and playfulness and these work with the affection stat which is what you really want to be the highest because that’s what affects your pokemon in battle.
You get Fullness from feeding your pokemon Poke Puffs. The quality of the Poke Puffs will give you more affection. After about 5 or so (whenever it just refuses and turns it’s head) You won’t be able to feed it until after it plays some more.

Playfulness is what you use to pet your pokemon and will also get affection love hearts.
You get playfulness from doing the minigames like Bop Head It, which is what I mostly played. Depending on the challenge of it you also get better poke puffs and how well you did affects how much you get, what’s also important is that in these minigames you get 2 other pokemon and later you can switch the pokemon in the amie change option and they’ll have playfulness earned as well. Playing these games will also drain the fullness so after about 2 or 3 games you can feed them again and all that participated will have used up their fullness as well.
They work so that you can pet and feed your pokemon and when you’ve done both until you can’t get any more affection you can play more minigames or switch the pokemon and work on them as well.
I think you can also run around or fight other pokemon or trainers and it'll raise up your pokemon's enjoyment but I have not tested it very thoroughly.

As the affection goes up your pokemon will endure more death defying hits, get out of paralysis and other status effects, do more critical hits, evade more attacks, and get bonus XP.
You’ll also get cosmetic Amie decorations for your pokemon in the Amie gallery from playing games and spending time with your pokemon. But all this has actually been super benefictional in combat.

One other thing is I don’t think this carries over in competitive play, so don’t expect to be able to get all this working in an online environment.
