"The Pokémon video game series has sold more than 200 million units worldwide since its inception 14 years ago" and "Pokémon HeartGold Version and SoulSilver Version, which have sold more than 8.4 million copies worldwide to date." If you go to the Wiki pages for the individual games, you might find stats and sources to back up those stats.

It was a long time ago when I first read this, but iirc this presentation has a couple of charts showing the different sales demographics of people who bought BW, DP and HGSS. Not sure whether they're all on the first page or spread over other pages, so you might have to read through it.

But I do know that the Pokemon franchise is the 2nd most selling video game franchise. First one is obviously Mario.
