Author's Note: End of season eight, the night before Mulder left.
She’s still awake long after he’s fallen asleep. She hasn’t cleaned herself up, though she knows she should. But, cleaning up means removing the remnants of the night that felt so good, that felt so right.
Tomorrow, he’s leaving her and there’s no way to know when he’ll be back.
Being with him was always nice, but being with him was better than anything she could have imagined. He was gentle with her and she wished the night didn’t have to end, she wished this didn’t have to end.
They talked after. Whispered words as he let his hand stroke up and down her back lightly. She had been pressed against him, his body warming hers. But, his sleep was restless and he had moved away from her, leaving her cold and lonely.
There was a soft gurgle and a sigh from the crib across the room. And that’s when her tears began. Because no matter how much she wanted to hold onto this night, it would never be hers again.
Tomorrow, he’s leaving her and there’s no way to know if he’ll ever be back.
