In the wee morning hours, all she can see when she opens her eyes is the blurred light from a lamp post outside of the car window. She wants to stay awake, for him. But then she's out again, asleep, drifting in and out without ever reaching a state of dreaming.
His eyes are adjusted to their surroundings. He's been the sole person on watch for the past four hours. She needs sleep. He doesn't mind listening to her slow and even breaths beside him. And when she stirs, he stirs, making sure she's untroubled, making sure she still stays in a state of rest. He watches her, for a moment, drinking her in as she remains illuminated softly from the dull orange of their only moon in the sky.
