She opened the passenger door and was about to climb in when she saw the cellophane wrapped chocolate cross. She picked it up and slid into the car.

“What is this?” she asked Mulder and cocked her eyebrow.

“For Easter,” he replied and pulled out onto the road.

“Why did...” She examined the chocolate and then looked to him. “You didn't have to get me anything.”

Mulder shrugged and kept his attention on the road. “You're missing time with your family.”

“And you thought a chocolate cross would help?” she responded.

“The woman at the store recommended it,” he explained. “It was that or a chocolate bunny. I thought the cross was more symbolic.”

Her eyebrows drew together. “What do you mean?”

“Sacrifice,” he stated simply.

There was a brief pause on her part as she connected the dots. “Being with you isn’t a sacrifice, Mulder.”

He glanced at her before focusing on the road. “Yeah, well, sometimes I feel it is. Especially when you miss out.”

“I’m not missing out,” she reassured him. “If I wanted to be with family, I would be.”

“So you want to be here... with me?”

“Yes,” she answered with a smile. “I do.”
